Girl with Pearl Earring I is a Belgian impressionist jacquard woven tapestry cushion cover. The artwork comes from the painting considered one of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's (1632 – 1675) masterworks. The original title of this painting was; "Girl With a Turban" but it was renamed in the late 20th century. There are many guesses as to who the mysterious girl is, though historians tend to lean toward her being his eldest daughter Maria who was about 12-13 years old when the painting was created. Today the painting is kept in the Mauritshuis gallery in the Hague. It is sometimes referred to as "the Mona Lisa of the North" or "the Dutch Mona Lisa"
Girl with Pearl Earring I is jacquard woven, the backed lining is of a plush velvet with an invisible zipper closure that allows easy placement and removal of cushion inserts.
