History: | Master of the Castle I is an Italian jacquard wall tapestry also known as I Nove Prodi, or the Nine Worthies. This tapestry is an adaption of the original fresco from the Master of La Manta (1420) an anonymous master, painted in the sala baronale of the Castello della Manta, Saluzzo, Italy. The series includes depictions of nine historical, scriptural and legendary personages who personify the ideals of chivalry as were established in the Middle Ages and their female counterparts. The best known character Godfrey of Bouillon who led the first Crusade from 1096 till 1099. He was proclaimed King of Jerusalem in 1100. |
