History: | Mucha Autumn is a Belgian made jacquard woven wall tapestry. In this work by Czechoslovakian artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939). Autumn is personified in a piece from his The Seasons series, 1900. An ethereal woman poses with a basket of the harvest. Her gown is heavily beaded and she wears a beaded headband on her hair. A red draped chair is behind her and the background forms a stylized outdoor setting to create a dreamlike setting to the scene. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely Neoclassical-looking robes, often using pale pastel colors. The Mucha Style became known as Art Nouveau French for new art and was often imitated. |
