History: | Mucha Winter is a Belgian made jacquard woven wall tapestry. In this work by Czechoslovakian artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939). Winter is personified in a piece from his The Seasons series, 1900. An ethereal woman stand beneath a winter tree wrapped tight in a pale blue shawl that covers head and part of her face; a mysterious look in her eyes. She is clad in a flowing delicate pale yellow gown before an illuminated snowy winter forest scene completing a dreamlike background. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely Neoclassical-looking robes, often using pale pastel colors. The Mucha Style became known as Art Nouveau French for new art and was often imitated. |
