History: | Temple in Lake Como Gardens Italian woven tapestry features just a hint of the temple shown here on the right. Built along the shows of Lake Como in Italy, Villa d’Este is one of the most stately and elaborate examples of Renaissance architecture and art known. “Temple in Lake Como” shows the temple that is part of the villa’s grounds. It has a commanding view of the lake below as well as the gardens that extend to the edge of the lake. One can see the command of color and light in this work, which is often attributed incorrectly to Francois Boucher. The gardens at the villa were known as giardini delle meraviglie, or garden of wonders. |
