History: | The Galleon Guardi is an Italian jacquard wall tapestry. The artwork comes from a mid 18th century painting of Venice by Francesco Guardi (1712 – 1793). Guardi was a Venetian veduta painter of the Venetian School. He is considered to be among the last practitioners, along with his brothers, of the classic Venetian school of painting. This is an extract from a larger work detailing the activities of the Venetian port. It focuses on a huge galley in the bay and the merchants waiting for arrival of the ship at port. |
