This large piece features a wide border of ornate gold woven around an ivory background with decorative coat of arms inset below a miniature landscape. Belgium woven jacquard tapestries depicting countryside manor houses and castles with floral, shell, scrolls, and ribbon work are typical of France’s Louis XII decorative school. The tall, narrow wall tapestries such as this were oft-used to decorate palatial homes and castles during the 17th and 18th centuries. . Imported from France. Backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging.
