History: | Wine Makers Belgian tapestry is a medieval tapestry "The Vintage Wine Press" showing a work from the region of Tournai in the XV century. We see a remarkable representation of the grape-gathering and the wine-press on a mille-fleur background, the original of which hangs in the Cluny Museum in Paris. The art of wine making and pressing of wine is a much celebrated activity of the middle ages, as it represents a production of a much loved product in France, as well as method of making productive use of farm land by knowledgeable wine makers. We see the intricate details of grape harvesting, pressing of the wine and refinement process in the barrels. The medieval style can be truly enjoyed here in this tapestry in the distinctive mille fleur style. |
